The Department has extensive experience in the use of spinal
cord stimulation for the treatment of chronic pain. It is currently
developing experimental protocols to evaluate the use of this
therapy for the treatment of intractable angina pectoris and ischemic
limb pain due to atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease.
It is also involved in studying the infusion of selected drugs
into the spine for the treatment of pain. The Department is particularly
interested in the treatment pain following spinal cord injury,
pain following nerve injury, post-herpetic neuralgia, phantom
limb pain, and pain following stroke.
