RECOVERY

You'll be monitored very closely both during and after the operation. You may experience some of the following sensations when you wake up:

  1. Blurred vision from ointment used by the anesthesiologist to prevent eye damage.
  2. Pain at the surgical site and tight bandages.
  3. Dry mouth from medicines.
  4. Sore throat from insertion of a breathing tube.
  5. Immobility from IVs, and oxygen mask or other monitoring equipment.

Actual time spent in the recovery room varies, but it's usually one to two hours. Then, you will be transferred to your room or the ICU. All efforts are made to allow the family to visit in the recovery room, but it's not always possible to because patients generally spend a relatively short period of time here.
