The 596-bed Medical Center is made up of four hospitals -- Medical University Hospital, MUSC Children’s Hospital, Storm Eye Institute and the Institute of Psychiatry. It also includes centers for specialized care – the Heart Center, Transplant Center, Digestive Disease Center and Hollings Cancer Center. These centers are led by internationally known physicians. MUSC is the designated Level I Trauma Center in Charleston. This is the highest level designated by the American College of Surgeons. There are many outpatient clinics, facilities and services, both on the MUSC campus and throughout the community. Discoveries from MUSC’s research facilities enhance the diagnosis and treatment of Medical Center patients.
