ADULT NEUROONCOLOGY PROGRAM

The Brain Tumor Clinic in the Hollings Cancer Center provides a multidisciplinary team of physicians who manage patients with tumors of the brain (or intracranial) and spinal cord. Examples of benign tumors treated include meningiomas, pituitary tumors and acoustic neuromas among others. Examples of malignant tumors treated include malignant gliomas, chordomas, and metastatic tumors. Neurosurgeons, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Neuroradiologists, and Neuropathologists work together in the management of various benign and malignant tumors of the central nervous system. A Brain Tumor Board, consisting of physicians and nurses from each of the above specialties, meets once a week to review the progress of the patients being treated and to make further recommendations. Treatment modalities available include image-guided surgery, conventional and stereotactically directed radiation (Radiosurgery), and chemotherapy.
