Mark Wagner, MD
Dr. Wagner is a clinical neuropsychologist and an Associate Professor of Neurology. He has been involved in the clinical care of patients with epilepsy at the Medical University of South Carolina during the past 15 years. In addition to patient care, Dr. Wagner is also actively involved in clinical research and teaching. In general, his interest is in the psychological aspects of epilepsy. In particular, he participates in the treatment team process of selection of patients being considered for the neurosurgical treatment option for the control of intractable epilepsy. Neuropsychological and Wada examinations are tailored to identify patients most likely to benefit from surgery where particular attention is addressed at assessing the risk of cognitive morbidity (loss) associated with surgery to aid staff, patients and families in decision-making. Dr. Wagner also is significantly involved in the patient care of refractory seizures where the diagnostic question is to distinguish non-epileptic (chemical) versus epileptic (electrical) seizures so that the foundation of treatment planning can be established.
