Professor and Chief of Neurosurgery


Dr Glazier, Surgical Director of the MUSC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, also serves as Chief of the Division of Neurological Surgery of the Department of Neurosciences, and the Director of Pediatric Neurological Surgery

He received his BA in Philosophy and Religion from Colgate University in 1981, followed by a Masters of Science in Physiology from Emory University in 1983. Dr. Glazier attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in 1986. He received his Doctorate of Medicine in 1987. His post-graduate training in Neurological Surgery followed at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Eugene S. Flamm, M.D. During his tenure there he received training in EEG under Dr. Michael R. Sperling and in the surgical treatment of epilepsy under Dr. Michael J. O'Connor, of the Graduate Hospital Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. He trained in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and gained experience in the surgical treatment of epilepsy in children under Dr. Ann-Christine Duhaime. As a research fellow in the Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Pennsylvania, he studied the effects of Heat shock Proteins on global and focal ischemia under Dr. Frank A. Welsh. Dr. Glazier continued his training in microsurgery as a Sugita Fellow at Nagoya University under Dr. Kenichiro Sugita in 1993.

Since 1993, Dr. Glazier has been a faculty member of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has held the ranks of Assistant and Associate Professor and served as the Surgical Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, as well as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery. He joined the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina as a Professor of Neurosurgery in November of 2007.

Dr. Glazier has been Principle or Co-Principle Investigator in numerous studies and published works in the fields of molecular control of epilepsy, cerebral ischemia, traumatic brain injury, as well as surgical interventions for epilepsy, cerebral aneurysms, and craniosynostosis. Dr. Glazier maintains a clinical interest and expertise in the surgical treatment of epilepsy, pediatric neurosurgery including minimally invasive correction of craniosynostosis, pediatric brain tumors, and cerebral revascularization.
